New Main Line Restaurants in 2026: The Two Blocks to Watch

If you have been reading the same "new restaurants on the Main Line" list on every site this summer, you have seen the names. What none of those roundups say out loud is that the 2026 wave is not spread evenly across Lancaster Avenue. It has clustered, hard, on two short blocks that a resident can walk end to end in about eight minutes each.

One is the Cricket Avenue corridor in Ardmore. The other is the 800 block of West Lancaster in Bryn Mawr. If you already live here, those two blocks are where your Saturday reorganizes itself around this fall. Everything else, including the buzzy Wayne and Fort Washington openings, is an outlier off that pattern.

Cricket Avenue Is Doing Something Different

Ardmore has been a strong dining town for a decade, anchored on the west end of Lancaster by Ripplewood Whiskey & Craft, which took the former Fellini Cafe space at 29 East Lancaster back in 2018. What is new in 2026 is that the gravitational center has shifted two blocks east, toward Cricket.

Sam Li's OGYU Japanese BBQ & Bar opened this summer at 60 Greenfield Avenue in the former Iron Hill Brewery, with customers grilling Wagyu and other premium meats on tabletop burners inside a dramatically remodeled space with black-and-gold finishes, marble-paneled walls, a large bar, and private dining rooms. A block over at 24 Cricket Avenue, Vintner's Table, a wine bar and salumeria with existing locations in Phoenixville and Wyomissing, is opening in the former Twenty One Pipes space, featuring handmade pastas, piadinas, wine from Folino Estate Winery, and vineyard-inspired cocktails.

And then there is the one people have actually been waiting for. Dan Tsao, whose Chinatown EMei has an acclaimed reputation for authentic Sichuan cuisine, is opening a new Ardmore location at 98 Cricket Avenue in the former John Henry's Pub space — the most anticipated restaurant opening in Ardmore in recent memory for people who care about serious regional Chinese cooking.

Read those three together. A high-end yakiniku room, a serious Italian wine bar with its own estate label, and Sichuan cooking from a Chinatown operator with a following. That is not a random cluster. Three unrelated groups looked at Cricket Avenue in the same twelve months and decided the corner was worth the buildout cost. For a resident, the practical effect is that you can now plan a full evening without moving your car.

Around them, the smaller openings fill in the sidewalk. Mango Mango, the New York–founded "house of desserts" known for mango-based dishes, pastries, sundaes, and hot desserts, is coming to 20 Greenfield Avenue. Kung Fu Tea, which closed after nine years in Ardmore, is being reinvented as Half a While Tea and Cake, expected to open in July according to Downtown Ardmore's newsletter. Pure Green Juice Bar has claimed 56 East Lancaster, and Calm and Strong Yoga & Pilates is moving into 46 Rittenhouse Place.

The 800 Block of West Lancaster Is Its Own Story

Drive four minutes west and you land on the other cluster. The 800 block of West Lancaster in Bryn Mawr has quietly been remade around a single new anchor and the businesses that decided to circle it.

The Buttery Bryn Mawr opened at 836 West Lancaster Avenue as the Malvern bakery-cafe's Main Line expansion, with 82 indoor seats and daily service from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., serving sourdough breads, pastries, Turkish eggs, sandwiches, and seasonal lunch dishes, plus grab-and-go foods after the kitchen closes at 3 p.m. That is a big room for the block, and it changed the foot-traffic math for everyone around it.

Pinwheel Provisions responded by relocating down the street to 824 West Lancaster Avenue, adjacent to the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, with indoor and outdoor dog-friendly seating and an expanded food and drink menu. Jeni's Ice Cream, the Ohio-based premium scoop shop known for flavors like gooey butter cake and maple soaked pancakes, opened at 840 West Lancaster, making Bryn Mawr the fourth Jeni's scoop shop in the Philadelphia area after Rittenhouse, Fishtown, and Narberth.

The gluten-free bakery Flakely, which had operated out of a Manayunk industrial kitchen, is taking its own Lancaster Avenue storefront in Bryn Mawr. Dim Sum Factory's newest location is landing in Bryn Mawr this winter with soup dumplings, shumai, and scallion pancakes. And if you have teenagers, they are already ahead of you: the TikTok-famous dot cake, layered in a cup and coated with signature nonpareil sprinkles, has been flying off the shelves at Bryn Mawr's Bakery House since it began offering it at the end of May.

What used to be a block you drove through to get to the Film Institute is now a block you stop on, twice, on the way there and back.

Wayne, Fort Washington, and the Real Outliers

The two openings drawing the most out-of-town coverage sit outside both clusters, and they are worth calling out separately because they behave differently than the neighborhood-scale spots on Cricket and Lancaster.

After some delays, 2026 will be the year Italian-inspired Testa Rossa opens in the former Bertucci's space on Lancaster Avenue in Wayne, the latest offering from Fearless Restaurant Group and Testa Rossa's second location, with a highly anticipated summer opening. Wayne has not had a big Fearless opening in a while, and the group's track record suggests this will be a reservation-first room rather than a walk-in one.

Fort Washington is getting the other headline. Academy Grill at 424 South Bethlehem Pike, from Michael Sloane and Jay Rosenthal's Fine Line Dining group, has transformed the former Cantina Feliz into a polished white-tablecloth destination, with Jeffrey Power, longtime chef at the erstwhile Dettera in Ambler, overseeing a menu of house-made pasta, seafood, and steaks. The Power–Dettera lineage matters. Diners who followed his cooking in Ambler now have a reason to drive north again, and it makes Academy Grill the rare suburban opening whose name recognition among locals is built in from day one.

Farther west, Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square keeps building out. Cleavers, the Center City cheesesteak shop, grand-opened its second location last month at Ellis Preserve at 103 Squire Drive, offering cheesesteaks, chicken cheesesteaks, burgers, sandwiches, fries, and milkshakes. Napa Kitchen and Wine is joining the same complex, a California-inspired spot featuring domestic and imported wines with dishes to match.

The Openings at a Glance

What Closed, and Why It Reshapes the Walk

Openings only tell half the story. A few closings this cycle change the way regulars route their evenings.

• Two neighboring watering holes in Bryn Mawr had their last call at the end of June: Maloney's Pub at 1009 Lancaster Avenue and Erin Pub at 1005 Lancaster Avenue. That is a hundred yards of lost bar seats on the exact stretch feeding the new 800 block cluster. Expect a rebalancing.
• Tired Hands' Ardmore Fermentaria at 35 Cricket Terrace remains the landmark craft brewery that earned national acclaim and James Beard nominations, but the group's 16 Ardmore Avenue location rebranded as Ardmore Brewing Company in early 2025 and is closed to the public as of early 2026. If you are still telling out-of-town guests to hit both, update the itinerary.
• Quick-serve Mediterranean eatery Lentil & Co. closed in Ardmore after two years, with founders Alia Sobel and Leanne DelVescovo citing economic challenges.

What to Actually Book This Month

If the map is the point, here is how residents are working it in practice.

• Cricket Avenue night: OGYU for the tabletop grill, then walk to Ripplewood for a nightcap. Come fall, swap OGYU for EMei and swap the nightcap for a glass at Vintner's Table.
• Bryn Mawr Saturday morning: The Buttery at 8 a.m. for Turkish eggs, a stop at Bakery House for a dot cake to go, Jeni's on the way home.
• A real occasion: Academy Grill in Fort Washington if you want to see what Jeffrey Power is doing post-Dettera, or hold your reservation for Testa Rossa in Wayne.
• Ellis Preserve run: Cleavers for a fast lunch, Napa Kitchen for a quieter dinner once it settles in.

The Main Line's dining scene is not one thing. It is a set of walkable blocks that reward residents who know which corner is moving this year. In 2026, those corners are Cricket Avenue and the 800 block of West Lancaster. Everywhere else is a destination, not a routine.
